Out of all the GPS navigator system launched this year, I chose this Garmin’s model for a review because of its trending popularity and attractive price tag. This basic entry-level model is best for people who are looking for a solid fundamental unit with nothing additional and just the quality. For all these, Garmin NUVI 57LM can seriously be an apt investment.
Though NUVI 57LM is not a huge leap from its previous models but is definitely a smart balance of features and cost and stands out as the best choice amongst its range.
The model appears stylish in terms of design, with a slightly enhanced logo and rear side. The weight is same, specifications are unchanged. Same 5 inch WQVGA 480-272 display. Can be viewed in landscape or portrait mode and the accessories include a vehicle power cable, suction cup mount and a USB cable.
I went over multiple gps reviews and here is a quick glance of the features offered:
- The LM in the name stands for Lifetime Maps, but includes only the UK and Ireland. The free updates for life means you don’t have to bother about spending on map updates after the unit becomes older. You’ll get them updated automatically and FREE.
- This unit includes a very helpful feature which often only mid-range or high-end unit posses, i.e. the Garmin Real Directions feature. This feature makes the navigation more comprehensive by pointing out turns using more obvious landmarks such as Gas stations and traffic lights instead of street names. This makes navigation through unfamiliar streets easy.
- The Direct access feature is another interesting stuff over here. This will help you locate the entry of big areas such as a large complex building, stadium or a mall.
- The new addition and the highlight feature of NUVI 57LM is the Lane Assist with Junction View, which specifies the exact exit turns and not to forget the School Zone Warning feature that determines the speed limits and informs you as you approach one.
All in all
Highlights – Lane Assist with Junction View; Lifetime Map updates and the reliability of brand Garmin.
Con – Lacks advanced features like other models of Garmin, but the pricing justifies this lack.
Verdict – it is absolutely a good option for the people who don’t wish for excess of features but will be happy with a quality fundamental GPS unit, especially when it offers a lifetime map update at such an affordable range.
